The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has released its monthly report for Jestha 2083, outlining a wide range of diplomatic and international engagements. Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal made an official visit to India from Jestha 22–24, holding talks on development cooperation, trade, energy and people-to-people relations, and later began a four-day official visit to China from Jestha 31 at the invitation of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. The ministry also coordinated diplomatic meetings involving Prime Minister Balendra Shah, held discussions with Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom and the United States, addressed a UN ECOSOC special meeting, and conducted bilateral consultation meetings with Norway, Switzerland and Egypt. Nepal also participated in BIMSTEC meetings on human trafficking, energy, connectivity and cultural cooperation.

A major focus of the report was consular assistance and protection of Nepali citizens abroad. The ministry said 819 Nepali nationals were rescued and brought home from illegally operated online scam centres, casinos and similar establishments in Southeast Asia, including 694 from Cambodia, 111 from Myanmar, eight from Laos and six from Thailand. Separately, the Department of Consular Services coordinated assistance related to the rescue and compensation of 122 Nepalis and the management of the bodies of 22 Nepalis who died abroad. During the month, authorities also authenticated 75,453 documents, issued 19 Non-Resident Nepali identity cards, and issued a total of 101,330 passports through the Department of Passports, diplomatic missions and local administration offices.

The ministry also launched the “MoFA Mitra” mobile application to provide faster technology-based consular services to Nepalis abroad, started the process of appointing ambassadors to vacant diplomatic posts, and opened applications for the MoFA Nepal Summer Internship 2026. Other notable developments included a Nepal-China mechanism meeting to review Chinese-supported projects, India-Nepal meetings on cross-border railway projects, economic diplomacy initiatives, and Colorado’s declaration of May 29 as “Sherpa Appreciation Day” in recognition of the Sherpa community’s contributions. The report further highlights the ministry’s public diplomacy, media briefings, diaspora engagement and efforts to promote Nepal’s trade, investment, tourism, culture and international cooperation.
