The Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration has forwarded the Nepal Backward Class (OBC) Farmers’ Federation’s program implementation plan and demand proposal to all rural municipalities and municipalities of Madhesh Province. The letter was issued after the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development sent the federation’s proposal for necessary coordination.
The federation has requested government bodies to include OBC farmers’ representatives in agriculture-related program planning and implementation meetings so that information and services can reach targeted farming communities. It has also demanded farmer identity cards, separate budget headings for OBC farmers, and targeted programs through local agriculture committees.
The proposal includes several demands related to agriculture and livelihood support, such as seed production and seed banks, subsidized seeds, livestock support, training in vegetable and fruit farming, irrigation through water user committees, agricultural roads, collection centres, cold stores and agricultural markets.
The federation has also raised social support issues, including rehabilitation of landless and flood-affected families, land ownership arrangements for informal settlers, and free school uniforms, books, stationery and meals for children of identified Dalit and OBC farmers.
