Nepal Government Seeks Updated Records of Local Governments’ International Sister-City Ties

Share

Summary:

The federal government has directed District Coordination Committee offices to ensure that local governments submit updated details of their existing sister-city or sister-government relationships with foreign local authorities within the prescribed deadline.

The Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives, Federal Affairs and General Administration has asked all District Coordination Committee offices to facilitate the collection and updating of information on international sister relations established by Nepal’s local governments. The notice refers to the Local Government Operation Act, 2074, which provides a legal framework for local levels to establish such relationships with foreign local governments after completing the required government approval process.

According to the ministry, it had already requested updated details of sister-city and sister-government arrangements maintained by local levels. The latest circular instructs district coordination offices to coordinate with municipalities and rural municipalities under their jurisdiction and ensure that the required information is entered by Shrawan 29.

For standardized reporting, the ministry has provided a Google Form and QR code in the notice, directing concerned local governments to submit their information electronically. The move is intended to maintain an updated federal record of Nepal’s subnational international partnerships and improve oversight and coordination of such foreign engagements.
