Summary:

Nepal’s Industry Ministry says its first four months of FY 2082/83 were marked by reforms in foreign investment, company administration, trade facilitation, industrial promotion, standards and digital public services.

The Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies has released its proactive disclosure report for the first trimester of FY 2082/83, outlining progress across industry, commerce, investment, company administration and consumer protection. Among the major initiatives, the ministry advanced automatic-route foreign investment approvals, expanded the Investment Facilitation Portal, promoted industrial infrastructure and continued reforms aimed at making investment procedures simpler and more accessible.

On trade, the ministry prepared Nepal’s Government Report and supported the WTO Secretariat Report for the country’s trade policy review, pursued preferential market access including the Nepal Trade Preference Program, worked on export-performance studies and participated in implementation processes related to the WTO Agreement on Fisheries Subsidies. It also continued work on trade agreements, certificates of origin and programmes designed to improve Nepal’s export competitiveness.

The report also highlights a growing shift toward digital company administration. The ministry says the Company Administration Management Information System (CAMIS) was brought into operation, alongside company-law reform work, digitisation of historical records and a facilitation clinic to assist service users. Other activities included industrial registration, intellectual property administration, standards and quality certification, market monitoring and consumer-protection measures.

The ministry further reported progress on policies and procedures related to industrial development, startups, foreign investment, e-commerce, trade logistics and supply management, while preparing or amending multiple laws, directives and operational guidelines. The disclosure presents the first trimester as a period focused on regulatory modernization, investment promotion, digital service delivery and stronger integration of Nepal into regional and global trade systems.
