The Department of Consular Services under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has launched the Nepal e-Attestation System (NEATS) to digitize applications for consular document authentication. The online service became available from Sawan 27, 2083 (August 12, 2026) as part of efforts to make document certification more efficient and reduce difficulties faced by service seekers.
According to the department, large numbers of Nepalis travelling or residing abroad require authentication of documents for various official purposes. The previous process often involved queues, repeated visits and lengthy waiting periods. The new system is intended to simplify the procedure, improve service delivery and reduce unnecessary congestion and intermediary-related problems.
From Bhadra 1, 2083 (August 17, 2026), applicants seeking Consular Attestation must submit their applications online through NEATS and upload the required documents. Applicants should visit the department only after their application status has been marked “Approved,” pay the prescribed government fee and appear at the designated appointment date and time with the original documents for verification and attestation.
The Department of Consular Services has asked municipalities and rural municipalities across the country to help publicize the new system so that citizens are aware of the changed procedure. The reform forms part of the government’s broader push toward digital, faster and more accessible consular services.
