Minister for Women, Children, Gender and Sexual Minorities and Social Security Sita Badi has presented the ministry’s progress during her first 51 days in office. She said the ministry identified 15 major areas and 28 tasks under the government’s 100-day work plan, out of which 15 tasks have already been completed.
According to the address, the ministry has moved forward with important policy and legal reforms. These include the draft of the National Senior Citizen Policy, the approved implementation action plan for the National Children Policy 2080, and draft amendments to laws related to children, human trafficking and transportation control, and the rights of persons with disabilities. The ministry has also introduced an Employee Code of Conduct, 2083 for its staff.
The ministry also reported progress in service delivery and social protection. It has implemented the GIOMS system across all ministry branches, strengthened 24-hour helplines including 1145, 1098 and 104, and introduced a QR-based grievance system that allows complaints to reach the minister directly. During the period, the ministry conducted air rescue of 13 high-risk pregnant and postpartum women, rescued and protected 30 street children, and reunited 494 missing children with their families.
Minister Badi also mentioned efforts to return two Nepali girls rescued from Sonagachi, Kolkata, coordination on Social Welfare Council reforms, distribution of dignity, adolescent and hygiene kits, preparation of KPIs for employees, and steps to make government buildings and websites more accessible for visually impaired persons. She said the ministry will continue focusing on policy reform, simplified services and effective implementation of social security programs.
