The Ministry of Foreign Affairs celebrated Nepal Foreign Service Day 2083 in Kathmandu on 24 May 2026 with the participation of ministry officials, former diplomats, media representatives and Nepali missions abroad through virtual livestream.

Addressing the program, Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal highlighted the changing global environment and stressed the important role of Nepal’s Foreign Service. He emphasized the need to transform traditional diplomacy into stronger economic diplomacy to support national prosperity and improve the wellbeing of Nepali citizens. He also called for effective public diplomacy to strengthen Nepal’s international image and dignity, while ensuring the Foreign Ministry remains at the forefront of protecting Nepal’s sovereignty and national interests.

Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai, in his welcome remarks, paid tribute to former officials for their contributions to Nepal’s Foreign Service and encouraged young diplomats and ministry officials to remain professionally capable, adaptive and committed to promoting Nepal’s national interests. During the program, newly recruited Foreign Service officers were welcomed, while retired officials and staff members were honored for their dedicated service to the nation.
