Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal has concluded his official visit to India, describing the trip as an important step in further strengthening Nepal-India relations and expanding cooperation in key sectors. He returned to Kathmandu on 7 June 2026 following meetings and engagements in New Delhi.

During the visit, Minister Khanal held formal talks with India’s External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, where the two sides reviewed the full spectrum of bilateral relations. Discussions focused on trade and economic cooperation, connectivity, energy partnership, water resources management, sports cooperation and people-to-people ties, while both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral relations.

The visit resulted in three key announcements: the launch of cross-border person-to-person (P2P) payment transactions under the NCHL-NPCI partnership, the handover of 72 health-sector and 12 cultural-sector post-earthquake reconstruction projects built with Indian assistance, and a new agreement between Kathmandu University and India’s Bhashini Division to cooperate on voice-first language translation and digital public infrastructure.

Minister Khanal also met India’s National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, with discussions covering shared security concerns, border management and broader bilateral cooperation. He additionally addressed a gathering of policy experts at the India Foundation, highlighting Nepal’s foreign policy priorities and discussing issues related to energy, trade and border cooperation.

According to the minister, the visit helped create a stronger foundation for expanding trade and investment, enhancing energy cooperation, promoting tourism, improving connectivity and advancing result-oriented collaboration between Nepal and India in the years ahead.
