Health Insurance Board Waives Co-Payments in Three Flood-Hit Districts for Three Months

Share

Summary:

Nepal’s Health Insurance Board has temporarily removed co-payment and capping requirements in Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading to ease access to treatment after severe flood damage.

The Health Insurance Board has announced temporary relief measures for residents of Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading, three districts heavily affected by the recent flood originating from Lhende Khola in Rasuwa. Following a government decision to designate the areas as disaster-affected zones for three months, the board said it will simplify access to insured health services in the affected districts.

Under the decision, co-payment requirements and capping limits will be suspended at health institutions providing health insurance services in the three districts for the specified period. The measure is intended to reduce the financial burden on people seeking treatment during the disaster-response and recovery phase.

The board has also decided that insured patients who do not have their physical health insurance identity card can still receive services. Health facilities may verify beneficiaries through the IMIS-User system by linking the patient’s health insurance number, allowing eligible residents to access care without presenting the card.

The Health Insurance Board said the decision was taken to make health services easier and more accessible for people affected by the disaster, with the temporary provisions remaining in effect for the duration set for the disaster-affected areas.
