Summary:

The government has asked local governments to organize and support week-long International Youth Day 2026 activities under the theme “Different contexts, common Aspirations,” translated into Nepali as “भिन्न परिवेश, साझा आकांक्षा.”

The National Youth Council, under the Ministry of Youth, Labour and Employment, has decided to celebrate International Youth Day 2026 across Nepal with a series of creative and youth-focused programmes. International Youth Day is observed globally on August 12, and the council has called for activities to be organized nationwide during the week leading up to the day. The Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives, Federal Affairs and General Administration has circulated the request to all local governments for coordination and facilitation.

The proposed programmes include discussions on youth policy and youth participation in governance, entrepreneurship and employment-oriented activities, exhibitions and promotion of local products and youth startups, youth-focused competitions, and programmes promoting youth tourism and culture. Local bodies are encouraged to adapt the activities to their own context while ensuring meaningful participation of young people.

The council has also encouraged the mobilization of youth volunteers in sanitation, tree plantation and other social, cultural and environmental activities. The campaign is intended to strengthen cooperation among government bodies, youth organizations, youth networks and youth-led institutions while highlighting young people’s contribution to national and local development.
