The Fourth Meeting of the Nepal-Canada Bilateral Consultation Mechanism (BCM) concluded in Kathmandu on July 27, 2026, with both countries reviewing the full range of bilateral relations and expressing satisfaction over more than six decades of friendship since diplomatic ties were established in 1965. The two sides agreed to further strengthen cooperation in areas of mutual interest and continue regular diplomatic consultations.
Discussions covered political relations, trade and investment, development cooperation, education, climate change, clean energy, agriculture, information technology, consular affairs and people-to-people relations. Nepal highlighted its ongoing economic reforms and efforts to create a more favourable environment for foreign investment and private-sector participation. Canada welcomed those reforms and praised Nepal’s work on climate action, electric vehicles, green energy and rural electrification, as well as its commitment to democratic governance, sustainable development and economic transformation.
The two sides also exchanged views on regional and global issues, including peacekeeping, human rights, climate action and cooperation within the United Nations and other multilateral forums. The meeting was co-chaired by Nepal’s Joint Secretary Dilip Kumar Paudel and Canada’s Director General for South Asia Jean-Christian Brillant. Both countries agreed to continue expanding the bilateral partnership, with the next BCM meeting to be held in Canada on a mutually convenient date.
