Summary:

Nepal’s Home Ministry has urged authorities and the public to remain on high alert from September 30 to October 2 as forecasts indicate heavy to very heavy rainfall across several parts of the country.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has issued a high-alert notice following forecasts from the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology indicating heavy to very heavy rainfall from September 30 to October 2. Citing special weather and flood forecasts, the ministry warned of increased risks of floods, landslides and other rain-induced disasters and called on the public and concerned authorities to adopt necessary precautions.

The ministry instructed authorities to continuously monitor special weather and flood bulletins, immediately communicate warnings to communities in risk-prone areas, keep disaster-response personnel and equipment ready, and identify people living in high-risk locations for timely evacuation to safer areas. It also directed special attention to vulnerable groups, including children, senior citizens, pregnant women and persons with disabilities, during evacuation and emergency response.

People have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel, particularly at night, and not to travel in areas where roads are obstructed or considered risky. The ministry also urged trekkers and tourists to avoid high-risk locations during adverse weather and asked relevant agencies to coordinate closely to keep essential services running and maintain emergency preparedness. Authorities were further instructed to ensure continuous operation of emergency contact numbers and coordination among the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, disaster-management agencies, local governments, security bodies and other concerned institutions.
