Energy and Irrigation Projects Put Under Performance Review for Faster Results

Summary:

A ministry-level review has directed officials to prioritize near-completion projects, study delays and improve budget implementation in the energy, water resources and irrigation sector.

The Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation held a regular ministry-level program review meeting under the chairmanship of the minister. The meeting was attended by the energy secretary, water resources and irrigation secretary, joint secretaries, departmental heads and concerned officials.

During the review, the minister directed officials to begin necessary preparation for the government’s 100-day action plan and to hold internal meetings to identify priorities. Projects that are in the final stage of implementation or can be completed quickly have been asked to receive special attention.

The ministry also directed officials to prepare clear data on irrigation capacity, targets and service areas, and to coordinate directly with agricultural producers so that irrigation development supports farming needs. It also called for a review of the current fiscal year’s budget and spending capacity, including reasons why some budgets could not be spent due to technical or implementation limitations.

The review further instructed officials to identify delays, negligence and obstacles in priority and ongoing projects, prepare a list of problems, and take immediate steps for resolution. The ministry also emphasized making next year’s budget and programs more result-oriented, measurable and effective by using available technical expertise and institutional experience.
