Summary:

Nepal’s Finance Ministry and development partners have discussed rapid damage assessment, reconstruction priorities and coordinated international support following the Rasuwa–Bhotekoshi floods.

The Ministry of Finance convened a Local Development Partners Meeting in Kathmandu to review post-disaster recovery needs following the Rasuwa–Bhotekoshi floods. Representatives from the World Bank, United Nations, foreign embassies and other international development agencies participated in the meeting, which focused on search and rescue efforts, initial recovery, rapid disaster needs assessment and damage evaluation.

Officials briefed development partners on the status of rescue and initial restoration work and discussed coordination for longer-term reconstruction. The meeting also featured a presentation on the Global Rapid Post-Disaster Damage Estimation (GRADE) report for Nepal by World Bank Regional Director for Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka David N. Sislen, providing an assessment of the disaster’s damage and recovery requirements.

Development partners expressed their readiness to provide necessary support and cooperation for Nepal’s reconstruction efforts. The discussions emphasized making recovery assistance more effective through stronger coordination among government agencies and development partners, while ensuring that reconstruction addresses the needs of affected communities and damaged infrastructure.

Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle, in his closing remarks, praised the rapid damage and loss assessments carried out by the National Planning Commission, disaster management authorities and the World Bank. He stressed that international assistance should be used in a coordinated and effective manner, without administrative obstacles delaying support to affected areas, and called for a transparent, well-governed and results-oriented reconstruction process. The press release is dated September 9, 2026.
