The Government of Nepal has published the Nepal Tourism, Hotel and Mountaineering Academy Development Committee Formation Order, 2083 in the Nepal Gazette. The order establishes a new institution named Nepal Tourism, Hotel and Mountaineering Academy, with the English name Nepal Academy of Tourism, Hotel and Mountaineering, shortened as NATHM.

The new institution will run academic and training programs needed for the hotel, mountain tourism, tour and travel, and wider tourism sectors. Its responsibilities include conducting research, surveys and studies related to tourism industries, implementing government directions, operating restaurants, accommodation houses and travel desks for practical training, setting training fees, and seeking affiliation from national and foreign universities.

A governing committee will lead the institution under the chairmanship of the Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation. The committee will include representatives from the Finance Ministry, Education Ministry, National Planning Commission, Department of Tourism, Nepal Tourism Board, trekking, travel and hotel associations, a nominated woman expert from the mountain tourism sector, and the Executive Director as member-secretary.

The order also transfers the existing Nepal Tourism and Hotel Management Academy and Nepal Mountain Academy into the unified structure. Their movable and immovable assets, liabilities, employees and ongoing work will be adjusted under the new institution. The earlier formation orders related to those institutions have been repealed, while past actions under them will be considered valid under the new order.
