Nepal Revises Governance Structure of GP Koirala Respiratory Disease Treatment Committee

Share

Summary:

The government has amended the formation order governing the GP Koirala National Respiratory Disease Treatment Development Committee, revising leadership eligibility and strengthening professional and gender representation in its membership.

The Government of Nepal has approved the first amendment to the GP Koirala National Respiratory Disease Treatment Development Committee (Formation) Order, 2070, updating provisions related to the committee’s composition and governance. The documents show that the amendment was processed through the Ministry of Health and Population and subsequently approved through a Cabinet decision in 2071.

Under the amendment text, the eligibility for the committee chair was broadened from a narrower senior health-service category to include serving or retired doctors from the 11th or 12th level of the health service, subject to nomination by the Government of Nepal. The change was intended to provide greater flexibility in selecting experienced medical leadership for the committee.

The amendment also revises the provision concerning three members nominated by the ministry from distinguished persons. The new wording requires the nominated group to include at least one doctor and at least one woman, strengthening both professional expertise and gender representation in the committee’s structure.

The committee was established to support treatment and institutional development related to respiratory diseases under the GP Koirala National Respiratory Disease Treatment framework. The amendment therefore focuses primarily on improving the composition and functioning of the body overseeing that mandate.
