Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle, leading a Nepali delegation, has departed for Washington, D.C. at the invitation of World Bank Group President Ajay Banga. The two-day visit is scheduled for October 5–6, 2026, during which Wagle is expected to hold meetings with senior officials from the World Bank, the U.S. Department of the Treasury and the International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), as well as prospective private-sector investors.
According to the Finance Ministry, discussions will focus on strengthening bilateral cooperation, supporting reconstruction and pursuing broader economic reforms, including efforts related to Nepal’s removal from the FATF Grey List. Wagle is also expected to seek additional assistance for rebuilding physical and economic infrastructure damaged by the recent Bhotekoshi floods.
The visit will also emphasize mobilising development-partner and private-sector investment in major infrastructure, particularly roads and electricity transmission lines, with the aim of supporting employment creation and expanding economic opportunities. The ministry said the government plans to use the meetings to attract financing for resilient development and accelerate reconstruction.
