The Government of Nepal has decided to observe a national day of mourning on Monday, Bhadra 22, 2083, in memory of those who lost their lives in the devastating flood in the Bhote Koshi River along the Nepal-China border. The decision was taken at a meeting of the Council of Ministers held on Bhadra 18, 2083, according to a notice issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The flood struck the Bhote Koshi River on Bhadra 10, 2083, causing what the government described as an unimaginable loss of life. The national mourning day will be observed on the 13th day following the disaster as a mark of respect to the victims.
As part of the mourning, Nepal’s national flag will be flown at half-mast at all government offices across the country as well as Nepali embassies and diplomatic missions abroad on Bhadra 22. The Home Ministry issued the notice on Bhadra 18 to formally communicate the Cabinet decision.
