The Ministry of Education and Sports has issued a press release marking International Day of Play on June 11, 2026, observed in Nepal on 2083 Jestha 28. This year’s theme is “Protect Play, Protect Childhood.”
The ministry stated that play is a fundamental right of children and plays an important role in their physical, mental, social, emotional and creative development. It said children should be provided with proper opportunities to learn, grow and express themselves through play.
The ministry has called on concerned bodies to ensure safe and inclusive playgrounds in all schools, develop play-based learning curricula, and promote regular sports and recreational activities in schools and communities.
It also emphasized equal access to play for children with disabilities and children from vulnerable or disadvantaged communities. The ministry said it remains committed to promoting child protection, mental health, social unity and the inclusion of International Day of Play in Nepal’s government calendar.
