The Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives, Federal Affairs and General Administration has issued a circular to all local levels regarding disaster preparedness and response.
The ministry forwarded a letter from the Ministry of Home Affairs’ Disaster Preparedness and Response Branch and requested local governments to ensure necessary coordination, cooperation and facilitation for disaster risk reduction and management.
According to the attached Home Ministry letter, local levels have key responsibilities in disaster management, including disaster risk reduction, preparedness and response planning, search and rescue, relief distribution, coordination in affected areas, risk mapping, early warning systems, and cooperation with communities and private sectors.
The ministry has urged all 753 local levels to take proactive action to reduce possible disaster losses and strengthen preparedness before emergencies occur.
