Search, rescue and relief operations continued for an 11th day on 5 September 2026 following the devastating Bhote Koshi River floods. According to the latest official figures, 13,098 people have been rescued, including more than 300 foreign nationals, while around 5,000 people remain missing, including approximately 600 foreigners from 35 countries. A total of 1,344 bodies have been recovered. Four people were rescued alive in recent operations, including two Nepalis from the Upper Trisuli 3A tunnel, one Chinese national from Upper Trisuli 1 and one Nepali from a house in Betrawati.
Tunnel-rescue and search operations continue at Upper Trishuli 1, Upper Trishuli 3A, Upper Trishuli 3B, U216 Haku, Chilime and Langtang, supported by specialized teams from India, China and South Korea. A 15-member Australian Disaster Assistance and Response Team and an 11-member Malaysian SMART team have also arrived to assist. Authorities are simultaneously working to restore road, electricity and telecommunications links, including construction of a temporary bridge over the Tadi River on the Galchhi–Trishuli road and operation of two cable crossings at Trishuli Indrenighat and Devighat.
A Rapid Damage and Needs Assessment (RDNA) has found that approximately 7,570 houses affecting 32,933 people and 48 government offices have been impacted. The disaster has also damaged about 55 km of roads, 37 motorable bridges, 68 suspension bridges and 1,806 hectares of agricultural land. In the energy sector, 13 hydropower projects, one solar power plant and two transmission lines have been affected, with around 783 MW of hydropower generation capacity impacted. A more comprehensive Post Disaster Needs Assessment (PDNA) is now underway to determine the full reconstruction cost.
Forensic teams from India, China, Singapore and South Korea are assisting Nepal Police with DNA collection and identification, while temporary burials are continuing after required forensic procedures. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it has facilitated clearance for 24 relief and rescue flights, while 155 Nepalis returned from China through Tatopani on 4 September and another 127 were expected to return on 5 September.
