The Ministry of Health and Population, through its Quality Measurement and Regulation Division, has instructed hospitals and health institutions to use the government’s Free Health Portal (freehealth.mohp.gov.np) for maintaining records of free healthcare services. The portal was developed as part of the government’s administrative reform initiatives to improve arrangements for providing free treatment to poor, vulnerable and destitute patients.
According to the notices, all concerned hospitals must compulsorily enter and regularly update in real time the details of patients receiving free treatment and related services through the portal. The directive has been sent to federal government institutions and hospitals as well as organisations representing private hospitals and private medical and dental colleges, indicating that the reporting requirement is intended to cover a broad range of healthcare providers.
The ministry said hospitals can download the Free Health Portal user manual from the website and follow the instructions for operating the system. Institutions needing additional technical information or assistance have been asked to contact the ministry’s Integrated Health Information Management Section. The initiative is aimed at improving transparency, monitoring and accountability in the delivery of free healthcare services.
