Nepal’s Minister for Education and Sports Sasmit Pokharel held a courtesy meeting with European Union Ambassador to Nepal Véronique Lorenzo on Bhadra 9, 2083. The meeting reviewed the longstanding friendly relationship between Nepal and the European Union, ongoing cooperation in the education sector and possible areas where the partnership could be expanded in the coming years.
Ambassador Lorenzo said cooperation in Nepal’s education sector remains an important priority for the EU. She informed the minister that work is underway to prepare a cooperation framework for 2028–2034, with potential collaboration focusing on school education, technical and vocational education, digital education and teachers’ professional development. She also expressed the EU’s commitment to continuing its existing support to Nepal’s education sector.
Minister Pokharel briefed the ambassador on the ministry’s ongoing policy and institutional reforms in school education. He highlighted the importance of the proposed School Education Bill and Technical and Vocational Education and Training Bill, areas requiring further reform, revision of the National Curriculum Framework, and the ministry’s work on teacher professional development and digital education.
The minister thanked the EU for its continued contribution to Nepal’s education sector and said Nepal is ready to cooperate with the European Union in relevant areas of ongoing education reform. Both sides expressed confidence that Nepal–EU education cooperation will continue and deepen in the future.
