The 14th meeting of the Nepal-India Joint Working Group (JWG) on Border Management concluded in Dehradun, India, on August 20–21, 2026. The Nepali delegation was led by Home Ministry Joint Secretary Ananda Kafle, while the Indian delegation was headed by a Joint Secretary from India’s Ministry of Home Affairs. The two sides reviewed implementation of decisions made at the 13th JWG meeting held in Pokhara in March 2025.

Discussions focused on improving coordination and real-time exchange of information to combat cross-border crime, narcotics and psychotropic substances, restricted and controlled medicines, wildlife and human trafficking, counterfeit currency and other financial crimes, as well as illegal arms and ammunition. Nepal also raised cybercrime and cross-border digital fraud as emerging security challenges requiring stronger bilateral cooperation.

The two countries also discussed preventing encroachment and unauthorized use of the Dasgaja border area, ensuring full operation and use of Integrated Check Posts (ICPs), and strengthening mutual legal assistance. They agreed to facilitate legitimate cross-border movement of citizens, improve monitoring and facilitation of third-country nationals crossing the Nepal-India border, enhance disaster-management coordination and make Border District Coordination Committee (BDCC) meetings more effective. Both sides also agreed to expand the use of modern surveillance technology, including CCTV and other advanced equipment, at sensitive border locations.

The next meeting of the Joint Working Group will be held in Nepal on a mutually convenient date.
