Nepal and the Russian Federation marked the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations on July 20, 2026, with congratulatory messages exchanged between Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. Diplomatic relations between the two countries were formally established on July 20, 1956.
In his message, Khanal extended congratulations and best wishes to the Government and people of Russia and expressed Nepal’s willingness to work closely with Moscow to strengthen and broaden bilateral engagement. He also emphasized exploring new areas of cooperation to further deepen and diversify the partnership between the two countries.
Lavrov, in his message to Khanal, also extended congratulations on the anniversary and expressed Russia’s willingness to work jointly with Nepal to strengthen the longstanding partnership for the mutual benefit of both peoples.
