The Ministry of Home Affairs has issued a press release after a jeep travelling from Rukum toward Jaljala in Rolpa met with an accident at around 2:50 PM on 2083 Baisakh 17. According to the ministry, 20 people died in the accident and one person was injured.

The ministry said rescue work was carried out immediately after the incident with coordination among the Nepali Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and local people. The Home Ministry expressed deep condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

To investigate the accident, a four-member probe committee has been formed under the coordination of a Police Superintendent from the Lumbini Province Police Office, Tulsipur, Dang. The committee has been asked to find out how the accident happened, whether negligence or weakness was involved, and what measures concerned agencies should take to prevent such road accidents in the future. The committee must submit its report with recommendations within three days.
