The fifth meeting of the Nepal–Switzerland Bilateral Consultation Mechanism was held in Kathmandu on 27 May 2026, coinciding with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Both sides reviewed overall Nepal–Switzerland relations and expressed satisfaction over the longstanding friendship and close partnership.

During the meeting, Nepal briefed the Swiss side on the country’s current political and economic developments and the new government’s priorities, including good governance, anti-corruption, transparency, digital transformation and efficient public service delivery. Nepal also highlighted hydropower generation and transmission, tourism and information technology as major economic priorities.

Nepal appreciated Switzerland’s continued development support through the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, especially in federalism, trail bridge construction, migration governance, community forestry, technical and vocational education, and disaster resilience. Nepal also requested Switzerland to increase cooperation in line with the government’s priorities.

The two sides also exchanged views on climate change, regional and global issues, and cooperation in multilateral forums. They agreed to expedite proposed MoUs and agreements. The meeting was co-chaired by Nepal’s Joint Secretary Ganesh Prasad Dhakal and Switzerland’s H.E. Markus Leitner, while the Swiss delegation later called on Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai.
