Ministry Reaffirms Commitment to Rights of Gender and Sexual Minorities on IDAHOBIT

The ministry has called for equality, dignity, social justice and non-discrimination for gender and sexual minority communities on International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia.

The Ministry of Women, Children, Gender and Sexual Minorities and Social Security has issued a press release on the occasion of International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia (IDAHOBIT), observed on 17 May 2026.

The ministry expressed respect toward the gender and sexual minority community and reaffirmed its commitment to human rights, equality, inclusion and social justice. It stated that Nepal’s Constitution guarantees equality before the law and equal protection of the law to all citizens.

The ministry said any form of violence, discrimination, hatred, humiliation or disrespect based on gender identity or sexual orientation is punishable under existing laws. It emphasized the need to promote family respect, tolerance, recognition of diversity and social harmony.

The ministry also committed to continuing policy, program and institutional efforts to ensure rights, protection, dignity, social security, access to justice and equal access to public services for gender and sexual minority communities. It appealed to citizens, government bodies, civil society, media and stakeholders to support the creation of an inclusive and equal society.
